...From a bystander's perspective it might look like he's lost either way, but Togami will consider this a victory not if he gets out unharmed, but if his ego does. What other people say has no effect on him; he's been raised by people who told him he was perfect, and he so fervently believes that's the case that he's an expert at dismissing those who insult him.
The only one that can injure Togami's ego is Togami himself, through stupid mistakes (the likes of which, of course, will never happen at least not until Chapter 4) or lowering himself to anyone else's level.
